Deputy Commissioner cum District Election Officer Jalandhar Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma today said that 18,000 employees of the government would be assigned various duties for smooth conduct of the ensuing Lok Sabha polls in a free, fair and transparent manner.

Presiding over a high level meeting to finalize the arrangements for the upcoming polls, the Deputy Commissioner said that more than 18,000 employees from centre and state governments, banks and public sector undertaking would be assigned several duties during the polls. He said that as per the need the employees would be used counting, polling and supporting staff besides utilizing their services for micro-observers and Booth Level Officers (BLOs). Mr. Sharma said that the duty plan has already been finalized and the employees would be soon assigned their duties in the coming days.  

The Deputy Commissioner further said that the district administration has already chalked out a detailed action plan for the training of the polling staff. He said that around three trainings would be imparted to the poll staff to ensure that they were able to perform their duty diligently on polling day. Mr. Sharma said that no stone would be left unturned to ensure that the polling was held in a free, fair and transparent manner on May 19 in the district.

The Deputy Commissioner further said that there were 1863 booths across the district and total number of voters in district were 15.74 lakh. Mr. Sharma said that out of this  8.22 lakh voters were male, 7.52 lakh voters were female and 23 were third gender voters. He said that the district administration was duty-bound to ensure that every voter was able to exercise their franchise freely.

On the occasion Additional Deputy Commissioners Mr. Kulwant Singh and Mr. Jasbir Singh, Assistant Commissioner Ms. Shayari Malhotra, Disrict Information Officer Mr. AS Kalsi and others were also present.
