Divisional Commissioner cum Accessibility Observer Jalandhar Mr. B Purushartha today said that in order to facilitate the Persons With Disability (PWD) voters to cast their votes during the ensuing Lok Sabha Polls, the administration would provide pick and drop facility to them.
Addressing the gathering during a special awareness camp organized for the PWD voters here at the St. Soldier Law College, the Divisional Commissioner, accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma, said that in order to encourage the PWD voters to cast their votes at respective booths, the Election Commission of India has taken this decision. He said that to avail this facility the PWD voters could either apply by downloading the PWD app on their mobile phones or could apply through their respective Booth Level Officers (BLOs). Mr. Purshartha called upon more and more PWD voters to avail the benefit of this facility and participate in the electoral process.
The Divisional Commissioner said that Election Commission of India was committed for ensuring wider participation of PWD voters in the democratic process. He said that every effort would be made to facilitate the PWD voters coming to cast their votes and it would be ensured that they do not face any trouble while moving in the booths. Mr. Purushartha said that the administration would prepare an elaborate movement and facility plan for the PWD voters adding that ramps, wheel chairs and other facilities would be provided at the polling booths.
Addressing the gathering the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma said that there were around 9000 PWD voters across the district and the administration was duty-bound to make special arrangements to facilitate PWD voters at the polling booths across the district. He said that the district administration would ensure provision of wheelchairs, ramps, helpers and others at all the 1863 booths during the polling day on May 19. Mr. Sharma said that every effort would be made to ensure that PWD voters were able to cast their votes in a hassle free manner.
Earlier the Additional Deputy Commissioner Mr. Jasbir Singh welcomed the dignitaries to the seminar and said that it was a humble effort by the administration to ensure maximum participation of the PWD voters in democratic process.
The Divisional Commissioner also administered pledge to the PWD voters for casting their votes.
On the occasion PWD Icons Mr. Vivek Joshi and Mrs. Mona Goyal, Director St. Soldier Group Dr. Manhar Arora and SVEEP Icon and Radio Jockey Pak Pak Deepak also aired their views.
The students of Government Girls Senior Secondary School Gakhal presented a play to highlight the importance of votes.
The Divisional Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner and Additional Deputy Commissioner also felicitated the PWD voters on the occasion.
