· SAYS ELECTIONS WOULD BE CONDUCTED IN FREE, FAIR AND TRANSPARENT MANNER
India News Centre,Jalandhar- In order to have overview of the arrangements made by the district administration for free, fair and transparent Lok Sabha polls, the General Election Observer for Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat Mr. I Samuel Anand Kumar today took the first hand information about the working of the various cells constituted by the district administration.
The General Observer, accompanied by the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma, visited the court of the latter where the nominations for the candidates were being received. He enquired about the entire process being followed by the administration to receive the nominations from the various candidates.
Later the General Observer also inspected the Media Certification and Monitoring Cell (MCMC), Complaint cell, C-Vigil control room and others. At the MCMC, the Deputy Commissioner said that the cell was monitoring advertisements, publicity of candidates and paid news by print and electronic media. Mr. Sharma said that the committee was keeping a strict vigil over the news content in news channels as well as papers. He said that the committee has been mandated for certification of advertisements, monitoring of news in print and electronic media besides maintaining record of all election-related news of candidates in the fray.
At the complaint cell which has been set up to settle the complaints received on the toll free number 1950 and National Grievances Service Portal (NGSP), the Deputy Commissioner said that the adequate staff has been deputed in both cells where the people could lodge their complaints regarding the violation of the Model Code of Conduct or other issues concerning to election. Mr. Sharma also said that effective mechanism has also been evolved for prompt redressal of complaints being lodged by people through cVigil app.
Expressing satisfaction over the arrangements made by the district administration, the Observer asked the staff deployed in these cells to perform their duty diligently so that the poll process could be completed in a hassle free manner.
On the occasion Additional Deputy Commissioner Mr. Jasbir Singh and others were also present.
