Further tightening the noose around the drug peddlers in the district, the Jalandhar (Rural) Police today busted one gang of interstate drug smugglers with the arrests of two persons including a lady along with 5.60 quintals of Poppy Husk smuggled from Jammu and Kashmir.

Divulging the details, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jalandhar (Rural) Mr. Navjot Singh Mahal said that the Police had got a tip off that a gang was operating in the area, which used to supply poppy husk in the district from Jammu & Kashmir. Subsequently, he said that during checking at village Kabulpur a Tata Indigo car bearing registration No. PB-08-AK-6170 was stopped, which was being driven by Baljit Singh s/o Amrik Singh r/o village Haripur whereas Sukhbir Kaur (Age about 45 years) w/o Gurmit Singh r/o village Arjunwal, PS Adampur was accompanying him. Mr. Mahal said that during the search of car in the presence of Deputy Superintendent of Police Mr. Digvijay Kapil, the Police recovered two bags of poppy husk from it after which both the accused were rounded up for enquiry. 

The Senior Superintendent of Police said that during the preliminary investigation, Sukhbir Kaur revealed that Baljit Singh was care taker of a house of an NRI in Sukha Colony, Adampur where they had concealed remaining consignment of poppy husk. He said that after that a Police party raided the above mentioned place from where 26 sacks of poppy husk were recovered. Mr. Mahal said that a total of 28 sacks containing 05 Quintal of poppy husk was recovered from the accused.

The Senior Superintendent of Police said that two FIRs under section 15 of the NDPS Act were already registered against Sukhdeep Kaur in Adampur Police station. He said that during the investigation Sukhdeep had revealed that she was in business from last 12/13 years adding that she along with her accomplice Baljit Singh used to bring consignments of poppy husk from Jammu & Kashmir. Mr. Mahal further said that both the accused used to conceal the drugs in the house where Baljit was caretaker and later sell it to the customers. He said that further investigation in the case was going on.

Prominent amongst others present on the occasion included Superintendent of Police Mr. Balkar Singh, Deputy Superintendents of Police Mr. Balwinder Iqbal Singh Kahlon and Mr. Digvijay Kapil.
