    Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma today directed all the Sub Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) to act sternly with the unscrupulous elements trying to disrupt the ambitious ‘Padho Punjab, Padhao Punjab’ scheme of the Punjab government.
Presiding over a meeting with the SDMs, Tehsildars, officers of the Education and Rural Development department here at the local Circuit House, the Deputy Commissioner said that the no one could be allowed to take the law in their hands and deprive the students of the needy and weaker sections from getting education. He said that the prime motive of this scheme was to impart quality education through the students so that they could compete with their peers in private educational institutes. Mr. Sharma said that this flagship Learning Enhancement Program ‘has been started in all government schools from classes 1st to 8th.
The Deputy Commissioner said that under this program the learning of students was assessed and they were put into different groups as per their learning levels. However, Mr. Sharma said that it was unfortunate that some people were opposing this pro-poor scheme of the state government for the sake of their vested interests. He said that this would not be taken at any cost and severest of severe action would be taken against the perpetrators of this crime of depriving poor students of education.
The Deputy Commissioner asked the SDMs to take help from their Police counterparts for resisting any such move. He asked the Rural Development and Panchayat department and Local Government department to sensitize the elected representatives in both rural and urban area regarding the benefits of this scheme. Mr. Sharma also asked the Education department to ensure that the scheme was run without any hindrance.
On the occasion Sub Divisional Magistrate Mr Paramvir Singh, Mr Amit Kumar Panchal, Mr Sanjiv Sharma, Mr Rajesh Sharma and Ms Charumita, Deputy Director Local Government Mr Baljinder Singh, Assistant Commissioners Mr Himanshu Jain and Mr Navraj Singh Brar, Joint Commissioner Municipal Corporation Ms Aashika Jain, District Development and Panchayat Officer Mr Ajay Kumar, Revenue Officers Mr Aaditya Gupta, Mr Tapan Bhanot, Mr Inder Dev Singh Minhas, District Education Officers Mr. Harvinder Singh and Mr. Ram Pal Saini and others were also present.
