As many as 5780 employees belonging to Jalandhar Parliamentary constituency and assigned poll duty would cast their votes along other people at the booths of their duty within the constituency during their duty on May 19 as the district administration has issued Election Duty Certificates (EDC) to them.
       Divulging the details, the Deputy Commissioner cum District Election Officer Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma, accompanied by Election Expenditure Observers Ms. Preeti Chaudhary and Mr. Amit Shukla, said that all the employees who have been assigned poll duty and were residents of the Jalandhar Parliamentary Seat would be eligible for casting their votes at the place of their duty. He said that they have been issued Election Duty Certificate after they had filled the form 12-A with their concerned Assistant Registration Officer. Mr. Sharma said that they would have to produce the Election Duty Certificate before the Polling Officer at the concerned booth or at the booth nearest to place of their duty so that they could cast their vote.
    Giving the break up, the Deputy Commissioner said that 506 employees of Jalandhar Commissionerate Police, 766 of Jalandhar Rural Police, 297 from Phillaur assembly segment, 297 from Nakodar, 280 from Shahkot, 295 from Kartarpur, 750 of Jalandhar West, 768 of Jalandhar Central, 735 of Jalandhar North, 706 of Jalandhar Cantt and 380 of Adampur assembly segment have applied for the Election Duty Certificate. He said that since casting of vote was an important democratic right of every individual so these employees would also be allowed to exercise their franchise. Mr. Sharma said that the district administration was committed to ensure that every voter cast his vote so that ethos of democracy was strengthened at the grass root level.
