ACCORDS WARM WELCOME TO ELECTION COMMISSIONER IN CITY

The District administration today apprised the Election Commissioner of India Mr. Sunil Arora and Chief Electoral Officer Punjab Dr S Karuna Raju about the vital statistics of assembly segments and Lok Sabha seat of Jalandhar today during their visit to the city.
Giving overview of the Jalandhar district to both the officers, the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr Varinder Kumar Sharma said that after the revision of electoral rolls total 15.48 lakh voters have been registered in the district. He said that out of this 8.09 lakh were male voters whereas 7.39 lakh were female. Mr Sharma also informed the Election Commissioner about other data pertaining to Electoral Registration Officers, assembly segment wise details of polling station and voters, details of Booth Level Officers and others.
The Deputy Commissioner also apprised the officers about Shahkot assembly segment which had recently got vacant after the sad demise of sitting MLA Ajit Singh Kohar, who passed away following cardiac arrest. He apprised the Election commissioner that the seat was predominantly a rural seat with total 1.72 lakh votes. Mr Sharma also informed the Election Commissioner that out of it 88885 voters were male and 83194 were female. The Election Commissioner was also apprised that there were 236 polling booths in the assembly segment.
Earlier, the district administration gave a warm welcome to the Election Commissioner after he reached at Circuit house today morning. On the occasion the Election Commission also took salute from contingent of Jalandhar Police.
Prominent amongst other present on the occasion included Senior Superintendent of Police (Jalandhar Rural) Mr Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, Deputy Commissioner of Police Mr Rajinder Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner Mr Jasbir Singh, Sub Divisional Magistrate Mr Rajeev Verma and others.
