Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma today asked the parents and teachers to jointly make efforts for giving wings to the creativity of children by encouraging them for participating in extracurricular activities.

Addressing the gathering after inaugurating an Exhibition of Terracotta Sculptures by the participants of Summer Workshop ‘Play with Clay’ here at local Virsa Vihar, the Deputy Commissioner said that at a time when a number of distractions were there for the students in life the need of hour was that they were encouraged for participating in slew of creative activities, so that their energy was channelized in positive direction. He said that the teachers and parents of the youngsters must make concerted and collective efforts to ensure that they were groomed well. Mr. Sharma said that focus must be laid on holistic development of the youngsters to make it sure that they could contribute immensely in socio-economic development of the country and state.

The Deputy Commissioner said that workshop ‘Play with Clay’ was one such effort by renowned sculptor Mr. Basudeb Biswas, to inculcate artistic fervor amongst the students/ children from tender age. He said that the students learn a number of new things in such workshops which help in ensuring holistic development of the children. Mr. Sharma further said that such workshops also develop several creative qualities amongst the students which were helpful for them during their life ahead. “I firmly believe that if parents motivate the children to participate in such activities then it can prove to be boon for them in the life ahead”, he added.

On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner also distributed certificates to the students who had attended the workshop.

Earlier, renowned sculptor Mr. Basudeb Biswas, Assistant Director Youth Services and Office Secretary Virsa Vihar Captain Inderjeet Singh Dhami, Principal of APJ College Mrs. Sucharita Sharma and others welcomed the Deputy Commissioner.
