Modi government biggest advocate of Punjab and 'Punjabiyat: Anurag Thakur
India News Centre,Jalandhar: Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting and Youth Affairs and Sports Shri Anurag Singh Thakur said that What Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji did for Punjab & Jalandhar, no other government had ever done before. "In true sense Modi government is the biggest advocate of Punjab and Punjabiyat."
Mr. Thakur said that since independence, for about 60-65 years, Punjab was ruled by Congress or non-BJP party, but none showed sensitivity towards Punjab. Work on all the pending issues of Punjab started during the Prime Ministership of Mr. Narendra Modi.
Citing an example, the Union Minister said that the demand for opening the Kartarpur Corridor was pending since independence. Neither the Congress nor the Akali Dal government accorded priority to it. But the Modi government took a firm decision and got the corridor built. Shri Thakur said, "The Prime Minister's reverence for Punjabi culture and ethos is evident from the fact that he never fails to pay respect to Sikh Gurus on every religious festival and respects Punjabi sentiments.
Mr. Thakur further said, “Whether it is the matter of building the ropeway to Hemkund Sahib or making the Char Dham Yatra accessible, all these were done in our government. We started celebrating the martyrdom day of Sahabzadas as Veer Bal Diwas. When our Sikh brothers were being attacked in Afghanistan, Modi ji immediately took action and brought Guru Granth Sahib and Sikh families to India by running a special flight."
On the question of development, Mr. Anurag Thakur said, "In the last 9 years, a lot of development work has been done in Punjab. Under the Central Road Fund and Central PMGSY schemes, a network of roads has been laid all around. Express road corridor is being built from Delhi to Amritsar which will play an important role in connecting many holy places.
Expressing concern over the growing lawlessness, communalism and corruption in Punjab, the Union Minister said that the BJP is committed to restore the values of development, brotherhood, nationalism, drug eradication and mutual harmony in Punjab.
